MasterCard and Discover Eliminate Signature Requirement in 2018
MasterCard and Discover have announced that they will no longer requirement signatures for credit and debit transactions in the U.S. starting in April 2018. The announcements will improve check out speeds at convenience stores and other retailers. Enabled by advances in payment security, including EMV chip technology and payment tokenization, the change should be widely welcomed by consumers.
Merchants interested in implementing this change should check with their payment network provider for specific requirements and to determine if any point of sale system upgrades are required.
