Who is liable for breaches in-store after the EMV dates?
Paypal info-graphic highlights how liability shift will work for in-store transactions
The scenarios below show how liability will shift as EMV becomes adopted in the U.S. Major Oil brands have communicated different dates for the liability shift to occur on their network. We encourage you to contact your respective brand for details on their timing. In general, if you are able to accept chip cards and a chip card is presented you will meet the payment networks requirements. For outside payment at gas pumps and other UPT’s (unattended payment terminals), the liability shift date is generally October, 2017. We recommend you review your specific situation with your payment network provider. Click to read full story from Paypal.
